Making of a radiobox in fibreglass and epoxy

The radiobox for the R42 is in process of being finished. I already have a mold for the box and made a new mold for the lid. A new mold for the lid was needed since I have decided to use tape and not screws on this radiobox. The box and lid will be clued together with Scotch-Weld DP460 epoxy glue after they have been removed form the mold. The epoxy and glassfibre materials are from R&G in Germany.

Here are a few pictures of the radiobox, still in the mold for curing.

New build: AC R42

The planning of the new AC R42 build has been going on for a while in my head. It has unfortunately taken a good time to get hold of all the parts that I wanted to use on the boat. I have cleaned up and reorganise my workshop and everything is now in place to step up a notch on the build.

I haven’t decided which radiobox to use; the one that comes with the boat, one from Modellbau Center Lorenz, or a combination of my own glassfiber box and the flange from the box from Modellbau Center Lorenz. I really like the flange from Lorenz with the o-ring as a gasket …

The tune pipe is the same as I use on my other boats, a Jeroen tune pipe. The rudder system is from Speedmasters and the strut and strut bracket is from MTC. I have also bought the engine, what I will use is … (you just have to wait and see).

Thanks to Dom again for supplying the hull and Jeroen for the tune pipe and tips.
